Funds raised each year by the Watford 10K are split 50/50 between Watford Round Table’s chosen local good causes and Watford Mencap. Through this arrangement, the Watford 10K has raised in the region of £25,000 for Watford Mencap over the last 5 years. This money goes towards supporting Watford Mencap’s Children’s Centre on St Albans Road. The Children’s Centre offers play, care and support for over 150 children with a learning disability in the South West Herts area. The Children’s Centre provides specially designed, welcoming and spacious facilities - two playrooms, a soft-play area, sensory room and garden. Every year Watford Mencap must raise over £200,000 to continue its children services.
The annual donation from the Watford 10K has allowed the centre to continue and expand its services, offering new opportunities for children with learning disabilities in South West Herts and paying for specially trained staff and specialist equipment. The Centre now offers an Afterschool Club which runs on weekday nights during term time, a Friday night youth club for 13-18 year olds and holiday playschemes. These services allow the children and young people a chance to get out of the house to a safe, inclusive environment, enabling them to build confidence and make new friends. This also allows their parents and carers a few hours of much needed respite a week.
Watford Mencap would like to thank everyone who has previously supported the Watford 10K.
